Tom
Heaney and Colm McManus's first film with the Whatever Pictures team
has been a phenomenal success, even selling to Channel Four/Film Four
before it was completed. Tom
and Colm's previous films were an indication of talent; 'Daddies Little
Helper' and 'When the Dust Settles' won awards and huge critical
success.
Through a meeting with a bar man in South London, Colm came on
the set of 'Green Monkey' and the two teams started talking about a
feature script that the writing duo had been working on. A decision to
make the short 'Don't Walk' was taken quickly in an effort to begin
working together long-term.
Whatever Pictures wanted to get Tom and
Colm's films to a wider audience with more commercial methods.
Alexei
Sayle was brought on board through his fondness of the role and script,
and Craig Charles was the perfect candidate to record the poetic,
scally scouser's voice.
The lead, Kjeld Clarke, discovered at the Union
Theatre in SE1 plays the role with comic timing and strutting
confidence.Shot
on 35mm in the SE1 area and in Kentish Town, the films 16 locations and
cast of 32 meant 'Don't Walk' was a challenge with a budget of
£3,000. With the producer's providing their original brand of
on set catering and a crew of very hard working committed
professionals, the film was finally post -produced using Tom and Colm'
s knowledge, friends and associates at Molinare.
